2, oxidation of lubricating oil (oxidation)

The oxidation of lubricating oil is the reaction of oil molecules with oxygen molecules. Oxidation will cause the viscosity of the lubricating oil to increase, the formation of paint film, sludge, and precipitation. Oxidation also accelerates the exhaustion of additives, causing the base oil to decompose. Once the lubricating oil starts to oxidize, the acid value will begin to rise. In addition, oxidation can also cause rust and corrosion of the equipment.

3. Lubricating oil is contaminated

Lubricating oil should be protected from pollution during use, including water, dust, air, various impurities, other lubricating oil, and so on. Various metal materials in some metal equipment, such as copper, iron, etc., will play a catalytic role in accelerating the oxidative deterioration of the oil, increasing the viscosity of the lubricating oil, and generating acidic substances to corrode mechanical parts. Especially copper and lead have a greater influence, while the influence of metal salt depends on the ion type and concentration of the metal salt. Air and water will also aggravate the oxidation of lubricating oil, and the degree of oxidation of the oil can be monitored through oil detection to guide equipment maintenance.

The oil problem caused by bubbles is very common in hydraulic systems. When the bubbles in the lubricating oil reach the high pressure area from the low pressure area, the bubbles in the oil are compressed, which will cause the temperature of the oil around the bubbles to rise and cause the oil to oxidize. Therefore, high-quality lubricating oil should have good anti-foaming properties. In addition, avoid inhaling air during use.
